Age and Educational Qualification (Eligibility Criteria)
JCO RT eligibility criteria as age limit, educational qualification and physical standards (height, chest, weight) will be as follows:
Civilian and Serving Candidates – 25 to 34 years as on 01 Oct 2019 i.e. candidate should be born between 01 Oct 1985 and 30 Sep 1994 inclusive of both dates.
Graduate in any discipline with qualification in religious denomination (will be common for Civilian and Serving Candidates):
Pandit and Pandit (Gorkha) for Gorkha Regiment – Hindu candidates with Acharya in Sanskrit or Shastri in Sanskrit with 01 year Diploma in Karam Kand.
Granthi – Sikh candidates with Gyani in Punjabi.
Maulvi and Maulvi (Shia) for Ladakh Scouts – Muslim candidates with Maulvi Alim in Arabic or Adib Alim in Urdu.
Padre – Christian candidates, ordained priesthood by the appropriate ecclesiastical authority and still listed in the approved list of the local Bishop.
Bodh Monk (Mahayana) – Budhist (Mahayana) candidates who have been ordained Monk/ Budhist Priest, by the Appropriate Authority.
Height – Minimum 160 Cms (157 Cms for Gorkhas and Ladakhi region candidates)
Chest – Minimum 77 Cms
Weight – 50 Kgs (48 Kgs for Gorkhas)
JCO RT Selection Process, Physical and Exam Syllabus
JCO Religious Teacher (RT) or Dharm Shikshak selection process will consist of Screening (Checking of original certificates, Physical Fitness Test & Medical examination), Written Exam and Interview. Screening, Documentation, Physical tests etc will be conducted at respective HQ Recruiting Zone/ Regimental Centres through Recruitment rallies as per the schedule (programme) fixed by the Indian Army.
Physical Fitness Test (PFT) – 1.6 Kms (1 Mile) Run within 05.45 Minutes (for upto 30 years age) and 06.30 Minutes (for above 30 years age)
Written exam – JCO RT Written exam will be conducted on 24 Feb 2019, which will comprise of two papers as per the following exam pattern and syllabus:
Paper-1 (Max Marks – 100) – Common to all Religious categories
Paper 1st will comprise of 50 objective type questions on General Knowledge/ Awareness and will be only a qualifying exam. Minimum 40 marks are required to qualify in Paper 1st. Negative marking of 0.5 marks will be applicable for each wrong answer.
Syllabus Paper 1 – The paper 1 test will consist of questions related to India and its neighboring countries based on History, Culture, Geography and who’s who. In addition Abbreviations, Sports, Awards and Prizes, Terminology, Indian Armed Forces, Continents and Sub Continents, Inventions and Discoveries, The Constitution of India, International Organizations, Books and Authors, Knowledge of Important events that have happened in India and at world level in the recent years, Current important world events, Prominent personalities etc.
Paper- 2 (Max Marks – 100) – Candidates qualified in Paper 1st will be allowed to appear for Paper 2nd. The 2nd Paper will comprise of objective type questions to check the knowledge specific to belonging religious category. Minimum 40 marks are required to obtain in this paper to come in the merit list and to be eligible for interview. Negative marking of 0.5 marks will be applicable for each wrong answer.

Written exam result and list of shortlisted candidates for interview will be declared by HQ RTG Zone Bangalore in March/ April 2019. Thereafter eligible candidates will be interviewed by a board of officers at 1 ASC Training Centre Bangalore and 39 GTC Varanasi as applicable Regimental Centre.
Final selection of candidates will be based on merit list prepared on the basis of the total marks obtained in Paper 2nd and Interview. Candidates finally selected will be enrolled as JCO (RT) and will undergo 06 weeks of Basic training at BEG and Centre Kirkee followed by 11 weeks of training specific to religious denominations. On successful completion of training the candidates will be commissioned as Religious Teachers in the rank of Naib Subedar.
