SSC Constable GD Selection Process, Physical and Exam Syllabus

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has initiated the recruitment process for selection of 54953 Constable GD in CAPFs (BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP & SSB), NIA & SSF and Rifleman GD in Assam Rifles. The selection process will consist of Computer Based Examination (CBE), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Physical Standard Test (PST) and Medical Examination. SSC Constable GD Selection, PET PST and Syllabus

SSC Constable GD, Selection Process, Physical PET PST, Exam Syllabus The Constable GD exam will be conducted by the SSC at various centers of respective region (Central Region, Eastern, North Eastern, Northern Region, North Western Sub-Region, Southern, Western Region etc). Computer Based Examination (CBE) will be conducted by SSC and the remaining tests (PET, PST and Medical Exam) will be conducted by the CAPFs. Final result and force allocation will be declared by SSC based on the Computer Based Examination merit (PET, PST and Medical Exam will be of qualifying nature).

Under the SSC Constable GD and Rifleman GD Recruitment, candidates will have to undergo the different tests as follows:
1. Computer Based Examination (CBE)
2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
3. Physical Standard Test (PST)

SSC Constable GD Selection Procedure
1. Computer Based Examination (CBE)
Candidates whose application forms are found to be in order will be issued admit card (will be available on the website of the concerned SSC Regional Office) to appear in the Computer Based Examination as per the pattern/ syllabus below:

Exam Pattern and Syllabus
SSC Constable exam will be of 01 Hour 30 Minutes duration and will consist of 100 objective type questions (01 mark each). The Question Paper will be of 10th standard and will comprise of questions based on General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Knowledge & General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics and English/ Hindi. The computer based exam will be conducted in English and Hindi only. SSC Constable GD Syllabus will be as follows:

General Intelligence and Reasoning (25 Questions) – Analytical aptitude and ability to observe and distinguish patterns (non-verbal type), analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, nonverbal series, coding and decoding etc.

General Knowledge and General Awareness (25 Questions) – General awareness, current events, questions related to India and its neighboring countries especially on sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity, Indian Constitution, and scientific Research etc.

Elementary Mathematics (25 Questions) – Number Systems, Computation of Whole Numbers, Decimals and Fractions and relationship between Numbers, Fundamental arithmetical operations, Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Averages, Interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, Mensuration, Time and Distance, Ratio and Time, Time and Work etc.

English/ Hindi (25 Questions) – Testing the ability to understand basic English/ Hindi language and testing basic comprehension
Mock Test for the Constable GD/ Rifleman GD Computer Based Examination (CBE) will be made available by SSC before the exam.
Cut off marks for qualifying in CBE exam:
Gen/ Ex-Servicemen Category – 35% Marks
SC/ ST/ OBC Category – 33% Marks

2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Shortlisted Candidates (around 10 times of the number of vacancies) from Written Exam will have to appear for PET/ PST tests on due dates which will be intimated by CAPFs. PET/ PET Admit Card will be made available by CRPF to download from The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) will consist of the following event:
Race : Male – 05 Kms Race in 24 Minutes, Female – 1.6 Kms Race in 8½ Minutes
[Race (For candidates of Ladakh Region only): Male – 1 Mile in 6½ Minutes, Female – 800 Meters in 4 Minutes]

3. Physical Standard Test (PST)
Candidates qualified in PET will be allowed to appear for the Physical Standard Test (PST). Physical Standards (Height, Chest & Weight) for Constable GD / Rifleman GD (Male/ Female) will be measured as follows:
Gen/ SC/ OBC Category: Male – 170 Cms and Female – 157 Cms
ST Category: Male – 162.5 Cms and Female – 150 Cms (160 Cms for male candidates and 147.5 Cms for female candidates from North-Eastern States)
Garhwali, Kumaoni, Gorkha, Dogra, Maratha and candidates from Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir: Male – 165 Cms and Female – 155 Cms
North Eastern States of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura: Male – 162.5 Cms and Female – 152.5 Cms
Gorkha: Male – 157 Cms and Female – 152.5 Cms

Chest (Only for male candidates)
Gen/ SC/ OBC Category – 80-85 Cms
ST Category – 76-81 Cms
Garhwali, Kumaoni, Gorkha, Dogra, Maratha and candidates from Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir – 78-83 Cms
For North Eastern States of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim & Tripura and for Gorkha candidates – 77-82 Cms
Weight – Proportionate to height and age

4. Detailed Medical Examination (DME)
Candidates shortlisted from PET/ PST will be put through Detailed Medical Examination, which will be conducted by CAPFs at the centres decided by CRPF. DME Admit Card will be available to download from The candidates will be medically examined to assess their physical & medical fitness for appointment as per Medical Standards. At the time of Medical Examination, candidates will have to produce all the original documents/ certificates as 10 Pass Certificate, Domicile Certificate, Caste Certificate, Height/ Chest Relaxation Certificate etc.
Final Selection – For final selection, State and category wise final merit lists will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the Computer Based Examination. Selection of the candidates for NIA and SSF will be made on All India basis.
