SSC CPO SI Selection Process, PST PET and Exam Syllabus

Staff Selection Commission has initiated recruitment process for the selection of Sub Inspector in Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). Applications are invited for the following 1876 Vacancies of SI in Delhi Police and CAPF (BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP & SSB). All eligible candidates can submit online form for the SSC CPO Bharti Vacancies through the website ssc.nic.in up to 15th August 2023. SSC CPO Sub Inspector Recruitment Exam 2023-2024

Pay Scale:
Sub Inspector (GD) in CAPFs: Rs 35400-112400 Pay level-6 Group B (Non-Gazetted), Non-Ministerial.
Sub Inspector (Executive) in Delhi Police (Male/ Female): Rs 35400-112400 Pay level-6 Group C (Non-Gazetted).

Age Limit – 20 to 25 years as on 01.08.2023 i.e. Candidate must be born between 02-08-1998 and 01-08-2003. Relaxation in upper age limit for SC, ST, OBC, Ex-Servicemen and other categories will be applicable as per Govt rules.

Educational Qualification – Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent qualification. For the post of SI in Delhi Police, male candidates should possess a valid Driving License for LMV (Motorcycle and Car).

Selection Process, Physical and Exam Pattern

SSC CPO Sub Inspector selection process consists of Paper-1, Physical test (PST/ PET), Paper-2 and Medical examination. Candidates qualified in Paper-1 will be allowed to appear for PST/ PET. After that, candidates qualified in PST/ PET will be allowed to appear in Paper-2. Thereafter Medical examination will be conducted on the basis of performance in Paper-1 and Paper-2. The latest and detailed selection process is as follows:

Paper 1st Examination

Firstly, all the male and female candidates will have to go through the Computer Based Examination (Paper-I) as per the pattern below. Candidates whose applications are found to be in order and are provisionally accepted by the Commission as per the terms and conditions, will be assigned Roll numbers and issued Admit Card for the exam.

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 50 Questions (50 Marks)
  • General Knowledge and General Awareness: 50 Questions (50 Marks)
  • Quantitative Aptitude: 50 Questions (50 Marks)
  • English Comprehension: 50 Questions (50 Marks)

Physical Test (PST and PET)

On the basis of performance in Paper-1 (including bonus marks in case of NCC certificate), candidates will be shortlisted for appearing in PST/PET Examination. The PST/ PET will not carry any marks but will be of qualifying/ elimination nature. Ex-Servicemen are not required to undergo PET.

Physical Standard Test (Male Candidates):

  • General candidates – Height: 170 Cms, Chest: 80-85 Cms
  • Hill Area Candidates (Garhwal, Kumaon, Himachal Pradesh, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas, Kashmir Valley, Leh & Ladakh regions, North-Eastern States and Sikkim) – Height: 165 Cms, Chest: 80-85 Cms
  • ST Candidates – Height: 162.5 Cms, Chest: 77-82 Cms

Physical Standard Test (Female Candidates):

  • General candidates – Height: 157 Cms
  • Hill Area Candidates (Garhwal, Kumaon, Himachal Pradesh, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas, Kashmir Valley, Leh & Ladakh regions, North-Eastern States and Sikkim) – Height: 155 Cms
  • ST Candidates – Height: 154 Cms

Physical Endurance Test (Male Candidates):

  • Race: 100 meters within 16 seconds and 1.6 Kms race within 6.5 minutes
  • Long Jump: 3.65 meters in 3 chances
  • High Jump: 1.2 meters in 3 chances
  • Shot put (16 Lbs): 4.5 meters in 3 chances

Physical Endurance Test (Female Candidates):

  • Race: 100 meters within 18 seconds and 800 meters race in 4 minutes
  • Long Jump: 2.7 meters in 3 chances
  • High Jump: 0.9 meters in 3 chances

Paper 2nd Examination

Thereafter, candidates declared qualified in PST/PET will be allowed to appear in Paper-II Examination as per the pattern below.

  • English language and Comprehension: 200 Questions (200 Marks)

Minimum qualifying marks in Paper 1 and Paper 2:
UR Category: 30% marks
OBC/ EWS Category: 25% marks
All other categories: 20% marks

National Cadet Corps (NCC) certificate holders will be given bonus marks in Paper-1 and Paper-2 which will be added to the normalized scores of such candidate as per following scheme:
NCC C Certificate – 10 marks (5% of the maximum marks)
NCC B Certificate – 6 marks (3% of the maximum marks)
NCC A Certificate – 4 marks (2% of the maximum marks)

Medical Examination (DME/ RME)

Candidates qualified in Paper-2 will be medically examined by the Medical Officer of the CAPFs or any other Medical Officer or Assistant Surgeon belonging to Grade-I of any Central/ State Govt. Hospital or Dispensary. Candidates declared unfit during Detailed Medical Examination (DME) will be allowed to undergo Review Medical Examination (RME). The decision of Re-Medical Board/ Review Medical Board will be final for declaring a candidate Fit or Unfit.

The minimum near vision should be N6 (better eye) and N9 (worse eye). The minimum distant vision should be 6/6 (better eye) and 6/9 (worse eye) of both eyes without any correction like wearing glasses or surgery of any kind to improve visual acuity.

The candidate must not have knock knee, flat foot, varicose vein or squint in eyes and they should possess high colour vision. Candidate must be in good mental and bodily health and free from any physical defect likely to interfere with the efficient performance of the duties.

Tattoo depicting religious symbol or figures and the name, as followed in Indian Army, are permitted. Tattoos marked on traditional sites of the body like inner aspect of forearm but only left forearm, being non saluting limb or dorsum of the hands shall be allowed. Size must be less than ¼ of the particular part (Elbow or Hand) of the body.

Final Selection

Final selection and allocation of Post/ Force will be made on the basis of the performance of candidates in Paper-I and Paper-II (including bonus marks in case of NCC certificate) and the preference of Posts/ Forces exercised by them. All the posts (except SI in Delhi Police) carry All India Service Liability i.e. on selection, the candidate may be asked to serve anywhere in the country. There shall not be any Waiting List/ Reserve List after declaration of Final Result.

SSC CPO Syllabus Paper 1st and 2nd Exam

SSC CPO SI Computer Based Examination consists of two papers as Paper 1st and Paper 2nd of maximum 200 Marks each. The question papers (each) will be of 02 Hours duration and consist of Objective Multiple Choice Type questions (01 mark each). There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer given by candidates in Paper-1 and Paper-2. The computer based exam will be conducted in English and Hindi only.

The detailed Syllabus for SSC CPO Paper-1 Examination is as follows:

General Intelligence and Reasoning

Questions will be based on verbal and non-verbal type, analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc.

The topics are, Semantic Analogy, Symbolic/ Number Analogy, Figural Analogy, Semantic Classification, Symbolic/ Number Classification, Figural Classification, Semantic Series, Number Series, Figural Series, Problem Solving, Word Building, Coding & de-coding, Numerical Operations, symbolic Operations, Trends, Space Orientation, Space Visualization, Venn Diagrams, Drawing inferences, Punched hole/ pattern-folding & un-folding.

Figural Pattern- folding and completion, Indexing Address matching, Date & city matching Classification of centre codes/ roll numbers, Small & Capital letters/ numbers coding, decoding and classification, Embedded Figures, Critical thinking, Emotional Intelligence, Social Intelligence, Other sub-topics if any.

General Knowledge and General Awareness

Questions will be designed to test general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society, knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity, Indian Constitution, scientific Research etc.

Quantitative Aptitude

Questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. The scope of the test will be computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions and relationships between numbers, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest, Profit & Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Allegation, Time and distance, Time & work.

Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and Elementary surds, Graphs of Linear Equations, Triangle and its various kinds of centres, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles, Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder.

Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square base, Trigonometric ratio, Degree and Radian Measures, Standard Identities, Complementary angles, Heights and Distances, Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar diagram & Pie chart.

English Comprehension

Questions will be designed to test the ability to understand correct English, his/her basic comprehension and writing ability etc.

English Language and Comprehension

Questions will be designed to test understanding and knowledge of English Language and will be based on error recognition, filling in the blanks (using verbs, preposition, articles etc), Vocabulary, Spellings, Grammar, Sentence Structure, Synonyms, Antonyms, Sentence Completion, Phrases and Idiomatic use of Words, comprehension etc.

Online Application Form, Important Dates and Notification

Eligible male and female candidates are required to apply online for the SSC CPO Recruitment through the direct link below or ssc.nic.in up to 15th August 2023. Online application contains two parts as One-time Registration Part (basic information with uploading of photograph & signature) and Application Part. Registration Part is compulsory as one-time registration to apply for any recruitment exam conducted by SSC. After registration, candidate may log into the system with Username (Registration Number) & Password and can proceed for application form filling.

Application fee: Rs 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only).
The application fee can be remitted through BHIM UPI, Net Banking or by using Visa MasterCard, Maestro RuPay Credit, or Debit cards or in cash at SBI Branch by generating SBI Challan. SC, ST, Women and Ex-serviceman candidates are exempted from payment of fee.

Admit Card – SSC CPO Admit Card will be available to download 03-07 days before the examination on the website of concerned Regional/ Sub-Regional Office. Candidates have to carry printout of the Admit Card to the Examination Hall along with at least 02 passport size recent colour photographs, original valid Photo-ID proof (Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Driving License, PAN Card etc) having the DOB as printed on the Admit Card.
