Border Security Force (BSF) has initiated the recruitment process for selection of Constable Technical (CT Tech) posts in Motor Transport Workshop Cadre. The selection process will be completed in two phases as Phase 1 (Written exam) and Phase 2 (Physical Measurement, Physical Efficiency Test, Documentation, Trade Test and Medical Examination). BSF CT Tech Selection Procedure and Physical Tests
BSF Technical selection tests will be conducted at respective recruitment centers (Jammu, Jalandhar, Jodhpur, Gandhinagar, Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bangalore, Hazaribagh, Agartala and Srinagar). Under the Motor Transport Workshop Cadre Recruitment, candidates will have to undergo two stages of recruitment process as follows:
Phase 1 – Written Exam
Phase 2 – PST/ PET, Documentation, Trade Test and Medical Examination

BSF Technical Selection Procedure
Candidates whose application forms are found to be in order will be issued admit card. After verification of identity, candidates will have to undergo different stages of recruitment process in the order of tests as follows:
First Phase of Selection Process
Firstly, candidates will have to appear in the Written Test on OMR based answer sheets as per the pattern/ scheme below:
Exam Syllabus/ Pattern – BSF CT Technical written exam will be of 02 hours duration and will consist of 100 objective type questions (01 mark each). The Question Paper will be of 10th standard and will comprise of questions based on the syllabus of Diploma/ ITI or experience in respective technician trade.
Cut off marks for qualifying in written exam:
Gen/ OBC Category – 35% Marks
SC/ ST Category – 33% Marks
Second Phase of Selection Process
Candidates qualified in Written Exam will have to appear for second phase tests on due dates which will be intimated through the official website. Candidates will have to qualify all the tests (PST, PET, Documentation, Trade Test and Medical Examination) under second phase.
1. Physical Measurement or Physical Standard Test (PST)
Under second phase, firstly Physical Measurement or PST will be carried out. Physical Standards (Height, Chest & Weight) for Constable Technical (Vehicle Mechanic, Auto Electrician, Welder, Upholster, Turner, Carpenter, Store Keeper, Painter, Vulcanize, Fitter and Black Smith or Tin Smith trades) will be measured as follows:
Gen/ SC/ OBC Category – 165 Cms
Garhwali, Kumaoni, Gorkha, Dogra, Maratha and candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir – 160 Cms
ST Category – 162.5 Cms
Gen/ SC/ OBC Category – 75-80 Cms
Garhwali, Kumaoni, Gorkha, Dogra, Maratha and candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir – 73-78 Cms
ST Category – 71-76 Cms
Weight – Proportionate to height and age
Female (Mahila) candidates:
Gen/ SC/ OBC Category – 157 Cms
Garhwali, Kumaoni, Gorkha, Dogra, Maratha and candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir – 155 Cms
ST Category – 150 Cms
Chest – Not applicable
Weight – Proportionate to height and age
2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Candidates qualified in Physical Measurement or PST will be allowed to appear for Physical Efficiency Test (PET) which will consist of the following event:
Run : Male – 3.2 Kms in 17 Minutes, Female – 1.6 Kms in 09 Minutes
After the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), qualified candidates will have to go through documentation (checking of documents). In this stage candidates will have to produce all original documents/ certificates in proof of details as given in the application form. Educational certificates, Date of birth certificate, Experience certificate (if any), SC/ST/OBC certificate, Domicile certificate, Discharge certificate (for Ex-Serviceman), Relaxation certificate, Photograph etc documents will be required for verification.
3. Trade Test
Candidates qualified in Documentation will have to go through the respective Professional Knowledge/ Trade Test of qualifying nature.
4. Medical Examination
Candidates qualified in Trade Test will be put through Detailed Medical Examination at the respective centres. The candidates will be medically examined to assess their physical & medical fitness for appointment as per Medical Standards.
Final Selection – For final selection, Trade and category wise final merit lists will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the Written Examination.
